Classroom Information and Procedures

Beginning of the Day
Children are allowed to enter the building at 7:25. Teachers or staff, are on duty at 7:25 AM. They will go to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast, to the gym to wait if they are not eating breakfast. Students will come into the classroom at 7:45 A.M. Children are counted tardy if they are not in the room at 7:50 A.M.

Snack
Our class has a working snack throughout the day. Students may eat their snack while doing their work any time they are ready for their snack. Please pack 1-2 healthy snacks for your child daily. No candy or soda is allowed for snack. Also, please do not send snacks that contain nuts. Only water is allowed at the student’s desk as long as it is in a bottle with a lid that fastens securely. I encourage students to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Lunch / Recess  12:05-12:45 pm

If you are planning to eat with your child please sign in at the office first. You can meet your child at the entrance to the cafeteria. If your child has money to buy lunch, please put it in a baggie/envelope labeled with your child’s name and place it in their take home folder or deposit it in their lunch account directly.

Take Home Binder and Student Planner

Please check this binder and planner daily and return it to school each morning. It may contain important announcements and completed work to keep at home. You may also use the student planner as a way to communicate with me and track classroom behavior.  Please initial your child's student planner on a daily basis.

Class Work

All class work must be completed in class.  It may not be taken home for homework unless indicated by the teacher.  All work for the grading period must be completed and turned in for your child to receive a grade. It is encouraged that your child read each night, at least 15 minutes, to ensure that they are reading on grade level or higher by the end of the year. Different ways to read are: listening to reading (you read to them), reading to self, and reading to someone.

Attendance

If your child is absent, it is mandatory to send a note to the office explaining the absence.  All work will be given to students when they return unless other arrangements have been made with the teacher.  Make-up work must be completed in a timely manner (we will work with parents to make sure missed work is made up).

Redo Work

Daily work may be redone as deemed necessary by the teacher.  Re-teaching will be done as needed.  The assignment will be re-graded and both assignments will be sent home for you to review.

Toys

Please do not send any toys to school unless you receive a note from the teacher.

Birthdays

On your child’s birthday, you are more than welcome to send a snack they can share with the class!  Be aware that some students may have allergies. Please notify me a minimum of 2 days in advance if you plan to bring in a treat. Please, no balloons, whole cakes, or gifts. Treats will usually be served during lunch.
