First Grade General Information

School Phone #:  210-357-2345

School Hours: 7:50-3:30

Sign In/Sign Out Procedures:  When students have an appointment during the school day, they should bring a note from home to alert teachers of an early dismissal.  When picking up students during class, all parents must sign them out in the office and wait for their child to arrive.

Absences: Student absences require a note explaining the absence as well as the date of the absence.  Please submit a note when your child returns

Tardies: Your child will be marked tardy if he/she is not in the classroom when the second bell rings at 7:50Students coming to school after 7:50 must be signed in by the parent to secure a pass from the office.

Dismissal/Transportation Changes: Please write a note or notify the office no later than 2:45 each time advising us of any changes in your child’s dismissal. Otherwise, children will go home as previously specified.

Medications:  All medications will be administered by the school nurse and must be prescribed by a doctor in its original container with the doctor’s directions.  Students should not bring non-prescription medications to school.

Birthdays: We love to celebrate birthdays!  If you would like, you may join students in the cafeteria during our lunch time(11:50-12:10) to pass out store bought (peanut free) treats.  If that is not possible, you may drop off the store bought (peanut free) treat  in the office by 11:30, so  that your child is able to pass it out at lunchtime. (No juice, napkins, or plates are necessary.)

P.E./Recess:  Children are involved in daily physical education and recess.  This will be outdoors most of the time.  Tennis shoes are the most appropriate and safest footwear for these activities.  For P.E., shoes must be closed toe with rubber soles. Your child will not be able to participate if they are not wearing the appropriate footwear.

Folders: Your child has a folder which will be sent home daily.  I will keep you informed about activities as well as general information throughout the year.  Folders should be returned to class in backpacks the following school day.  A daily “backpack/folder” check by parents is important to you and your child.

Homework: Reading daily at school and at home is important to your child’s reading growth. Please commit to setting aside 20 minutes per night for your child to practice reading. A combination of your child reading to you and you reading to your child is beneficial.

Snacks:  We will have snack time each day in the morning. Each child needs to bring one healthy (peanut free) snack and a water bottle. Since our snack is during our learning time, please do not send in fruit cups, pudding, or items that require utensils.

Here are some suggestions from the state:  Pretzels, rice cakes, dry cereal, fig bars, vanilla wafers, crackers of some sort, fresh fruit that is already peeled/cut or veggies, fruit grain bars, trail mix, squeezable applesauce, etc.
